Italian Supercar Granted A Taxi Licence In The UK
Last week Wolverhampton City Council granted a private hire licence for a Lamborghini Huracan, making it the first supercar taxi in the UK.
You Could Get To Your Destination In No Time In The Lamborghini Taxi
The Lamborghini Huracan, which replaced the Gallardo in 2014, has a mammoth 5.2 litre V10 engine allowing it to reach a whopping 202 mph. With 602 hp at its disposal, it can do 0-60 mph in a startling 3.4 seconds, so if you got it home from a night out, your kebab and chips could end up going everywhere. The Lamborghini taxi is owned by Special Wedding Cars, so you might not be allowed in it after four or five pints.
It’s Not Cheap
Starting at £349 for 90 minutes, if you decide to book the green Lambo it might be one of the most expensive taxi rides you ever take, but you’ll be travelling in style. Special Wedding Cars owner David Warke said: “I believe the Lamborghini Huracan is the first licenced supercar taxi in the UK. You don’t need a licence to hire vehicles for weddings or funerals but for any other use you do, so we applied to Wolverhampton City Council for a licence. We do a lot of school proms but the licenced Lamborghini can be hired out to anyone who fancies travelling in luxury whether to go out to meet mates on a night out or a shopping trip.”
Bride-To-Be Was First Customer In Lamborghini Taxi
The first passenger in the Lamborghini taxi was a bride-to-be from the West Midlands. Nicola Crees was successfully nominated by her fiancé Andrew Horton for a Birmingham Mail competition to be the first passenger in the extravagant taxi. Nicola, who lives near Solihull, was taken to the airport in the £200,000 Lamborghini for her hen night in Benidorm. She said: “I just couldn’t believe it when the Lamborghini pulled up. It was a very special start to my hen weekend. I want to thank Andrew, the Mail and David at Special Wedding Cars for making the journey to Birmingham Airport really special. I felt like a superstar turning up to the airport in such style.”
Is It The Fastest Taxi In The World?
Surprisingly no. If 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds isn’t fast enough then a taxi firm in the Czech Republic might have the answer. You can get a Bugatti Veyron taxi in Prague, and the ultra-expensive super car can reach 60 mph in 2.5 seconds. If you’re a fan of supercar cabs then you might also want to take a visit to Palermo in Italy, where Audi R8 taxis are fairly common, or Germany where you can get a ride in a Porsche Cayman cab.
