Great Rates For Drivers With Convictions
Car insurance for convicted drivers can be difficult to find because many insurance providers do not have the products or expertise available to handle Convicted Driver insurance, while some of those that do may charge very expensive premiums to provide cover.
So, what’s the best car insurance for drivers with convictions? Well, depending upon your individual circumstances, there are a number of ways to get a policy that suits your needs.
From speeding and totting up, to drink driving and other serious motoring offences, we specialise in helping drivers with convictions find the right insurance policy. We’ll consider ALL offences and bans, and we offer significant discounts for drivers that have completed a rehabilitation course. Drink driving, drug driving and non-motoring convictions are all covered. Get a quote today!
Finding The Right Car Insurance
Firstly, you should compare different quotes from different providers, and always make sure you understand what each insurance broker is offering and the limitations of their policies. Some brokers offering online prices may not always include everything you want, so it is beneficial to speak to a specialist to get the cover you need. Likewise, who will actually provide cover can vary depending on the convictions you have. Finding Car insurance after serving a DR10 drink driving ban, for example, may be more difficult than finding a policy once you’ve received an SP30 speeding conviction.
Drink Driving is considered one of the most serious convictions and the punishments handed out usually reflect this. There are roughly eighty thousand drink-driving convictions issued every year in the UK, and many insurers won’t cover you after you have been issued with one, which is where a specialist broker comes in.
Experts in Convicted Driver Insurance
Whether you’ve picked up a couple of SP30s, or you’ve been convicted of something more serious like driving without insurance (IN10), driving under the influence of drink or drugs, or even a dangerous driving offence, we know the hassle this can cause when arranging your insurance policy. As a specialist convicted driving insurance broker, we’re experienced at providing cover that can help save you time, money and hassle! We take a pragmatic view, and understand that having been convicted and punished before, and having seen the impact this can have on your life, there’s a good chance you won’t reoffend, making you a safer driver in the process. We also work with some of the UK’s top driving rehabilitation course providers, to offer rehabilitated drivers cheaper rates on their insurance. Our policies can benefit from the following:
- All Convictions Considered
- Course Completion Discounts
- Specialist Convicted Driver Team
- Convicted Van Drivers Covered
- Non-Motoring Conviction Cover Experienced Team
- Free EU cover up to 90 days
- UK & EU Breakdown Cover
- Legal Protection Cover Available
- No Claims Bonus Protection
- Flexible payment options
So if you’re after a fast convicted driver quote, or you want great cheap rates for Convicted Drivers, give us a call, or alternatively fill in our quote form and one of our Convicted Driver experts will give you a call to go through all of your details and help you find our best price.
What do I do now?
The process of getting car insurance can be difficult enough without the extra hassle of convictions increasing the costs. If you are struggling to know what you do and don’t need to declare, and what impact it may have on your insurance, there is no harm in giving our sales team a call for a potential quote. Every individual case is different and our sales team works hard to find a policy that’s best suited to you.
We pride ourselves on our quality of customer service. Whatever your conviction, our team will always do their best to find you what you need. By talking to a specialist, you can be confident that they have access to the right type of insurers and policies, and have the experience of finding cover for people in the same situation as you. If you are looking to lower your premiums further, they may be able to pinpoint and locate the best course of action to help you achieve this.
Everybody makes mistakes – We deal with thousands of drivers with convictions, and our sales team make no judgements - their main goal is to offer all the information and guidance you need to make a well-informed decision on a convicted policy, and help you save money in the process.
Don’t go without cover – Avoiding a problem or pretending that it’s not there has never done anybody any favours, particularly when it comes to insurance. It is a legal requirement for road users to have the minimum level of insurance, so do not be tempted to drive without cover in place, just because it will be more expensive. When you get caught, your punishment will be more severe…and what’s worse than a conviction? Getting another one!
Cheaper Prices For Convicted Drivers
At Think, no matter what your driving offence, we will consider your record and try and find you a policy that doesn’t break the bank. Even for some of the more serious convictions like attempting to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or driving without insurance, we can help get you covered. We work with our panel of insurers to search the market to find cheap rates for DR10 convicted drivers, or to find cheap Car insurance for drivers with an IN10, plus all other convictions will be considered, and we will work hard to try and find you cover.
We also understand that people make mistakes and that very often, drivers that have been caught and convicted of an offence, will often become more aware and conscious of their driving and not want to find themselves in the same situation again in the future.
Rehab Course Completion
If you have been offered the option to attend and complete a driver rehabilitation course for either drink driving or drug driving, then this could help in your search for cheaper cover. We work with many of the driver rehabilitation course providers including OGWR DASH, TTC and many others, and offer all drivers that have completed one of their courses, an additional discount off their premium. When you consider the potential cost of a Convicted Driver insurance policy, this additional discount could prove quite significant, so there is even more reason to attend a course, as well as making you a better, more aware driver.
Why Get Convicted Driver Insurance With Think?
We aren’t just a Car insurance broker that happens to also offer cover to some drivers with convictions on their licence. At Think, we are a specialist Convicted Driver insurance broker with years of experience helping those with convictions find a policy to get them back on the road where other companies might not. We’ve helped thousands of drivers find cover after they have received a conviction or ban, and we can cover nearly all driving convictions. The expertise and knowledge of our specialist convicted driver insurance team is second-to-none. When combined with our award winning and friendly customer service, it gives you more reasons to try us next time you’re looking for the best Car insurance for convicted drivers.
We don’t just cover car drivers with convictions either; we will also help van owners find a policy to get them on the road. Most van owners will probably need to drive their vehicle for work, and so if they can’t afford to insure it, they may not be able to work. If you drive a van and have one or more convictions on your driving licence, then give our team a call and we’ll help get you cover so you can carry on working!

What Is Convicted Driver Insurance?
What do I need to know about Convicted Driver Insurance?
If you haven’t had to look at getting this type of cover before, you might be wondering what’s the difference between a normal policy and a convicted driver policy?
Convicted Driver insurance is essentially the same as standard Car insurance except the policy and the insurer recognise the fact that the driver has unspent driving convictions, which are taken in to account when calculating the premium.
Cover levels for Convicted Driver insurance are the same too, with Comprehensive, Third Party, Fire & Theft, and Third Part Only levels of cover being available.
In order to drive a vehicle on the road in the UK you must have insurance, and while having a conviction can make this more difficult and expensive, there are ways to make it easier and more affordable, such as using a Convicted Driver insurance specialist such as Think Insurance.
We deal with thousands of convicted drivers so we understand the process you are going through. If you have previously lost your driving licence and are returning from a driving ban, we don’t make any judgements and just work hard to find you an affordable policy to help you get back on the road.
If you have any questions about your specific convictions and driving history, and how this might affect your premium, you can learn more about Convicted Driver insurance by speaking to our specialists on 0800 221 8077.
Who Needs Convicted Driver Insurance?
It doesn’t matter if you have been caught speeding and accumulated too many points, or you’ve been charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, whatever your driving conviction, we will try and help you find an affordable Car insurance policy that fits your circumstances. We will look at your individual convictions and situation, and will search our panel of convicted driver insurers to try and find a policy that’s right for you.
Which Driving Convictions Can Be Covered?
Here at Think we don’t judge based on your specific conviction(s). We take each customer on a case-by-case basis to ensure that everybody is treated fairly.
We can cater for most convictions, including the following:
- Disqualified Drivers (BA offences)
- Careless Driving (CD Offences)
- Drink Driving (DR offences)
- Drug Driving (DG offences)
- Insurance Offences (IN10)
- Speeding (SP offences)
- Traffic Directions & Signs (TS offences)
- Plus most other offences considered!
So if you’re looking for cheap insurance for IN10 Convicted Drivers, or you have received a DR10 and need Convicted Driver insurance, we can help you out!
We don’t just offer Car insurance for drivers with convictions; We also provide insurance to drive a van with convictions, so if this includes you, why not get a quote and see if we can help save you money on your van insurance too?
As a specialist insurance broker in both Motor Trade insurance and Convicted Driver insurance, we can also help you combine the two. For more details, just ask one of our team about a Motor Trade Insurance Policy with Convictions, and they will take you through the details, and help you find the right quote.
If your convictions are non-motoring convictions, then we may also be able to help you find insurance, subject to your individual circumstances and conviction(s). For more information, please call and speak to an expert.
Does my conviction count?
You may be thinking that a small infraction such as texting while driving isn’t enough to put you in the same bracket as people who drink and drive (DR10 Convicted driver).
Unfortunately, this is not the case, and while being caught texting at a red light may seem like a small thing to you, it still counts as negligence while driving. All driving convictions fall under the same brand of insurance no matter how small, though the impact on your insurance premium will differ depending upon the severity of the conviction. Some might have no impact on your premium at all, such as a single SP30 conviction, while others will lead to a significant increase - regardless the insurer may still look at the policy on a case by case basis.
Whilst your premium may not increase, you must still declare all convictions upon application for a quote. Some insurers will differ regarding the length of time that you need to declare a conviction, so make sure you understand the requirements for each broker you speak to.
Also, these convictions may stay on your licence for up to 11 years, and any points that you have been awarded will remain for 3 years. Whatever your offence Code, make sure you understand what it means and what the impact of having one might be.
Can I continue to run my business?
A conviction is never the end of the world, and it doesn’t have to have an extreme negative effect on your life. If you need to drive for your work, or you work with vehicles as part of your business, (in the Motor Trade) then you may still be eligible for Motor Trade Insurance for convicted drivers. While it may seem far more difficult to acquire the right cover, it is still possible for you to be eligible for a Motor Trade insurance, and our team can explain how it might impact your business, and help find you cover.
If you are a returning trader who took time away due to previous convictions, or if you are somebody who is looking to inject yourself into the motor trade industry, you may find it hard to wrap your head around how you can work as a motor trader while having convictions. If you are in this situation, it would be in the best interest to seek advice from us, as a knowledgeable and experienced, specialist Motor Trade insurance Broker.
Will the timeframe since I had my conviction change the cost?
If you have a driving conviction, you will need to declare this to your insurance company for up to 5 years after the date of your conviction. This is because driving convictions, accidents and claims can all have a bearing on your insurance premium, so your insurer will need to take these into consideration when calculating the cost.
Some insurers may only need your driving history for the last 3 years, but this can vary from insurer-to-insurer so please check carefully and make sure you are declaring them wherever required. So, if you have received Driving Convictions in the last 3 years, then you are definitely going to have to declare them; longer than 3 years…always check!
Top Tips for Convicted Drivers
Getting Convicted Driver insurance can be both expensive, and also stressful at times, particularly if you are finding it difficult to find cover for your particular driving history. However, DON’T PANIC! Here are a few tips to help you make sure you get the right cover and keep the cost of your Convicted Driver insurance down:
1. Declare Your Conviction
Don’t be tempted to lie about your conviction(s), omit or fail to disclose your conviction(s) in the hope of getting cheaper Car insurance. When your insurer finds out (and they will find out!), your insurance will be cancelled and made void, which means that you will have essentially never had cover in place, and so if you were unfortunate to have been involved in an accident, you will have to cover the costs yourself. You could also be charged with insurance fraud.
2. Complete a Rehabilitation Course
If your driving conviction involves drugs or alcohol, then you may have had an option to complete a driver rehabilitation course. We work with a number of the leading providers of these courses across the UK and in return for you completing one of their courses, you get an additional discount off your insurance premium.
3. Increase Your Excess
If you are able to afford it, increasing your policy Excess can help reduce the cost of your policy. However, always make sure that you are comfortable with the final Excess level you choose, as this is the amount you will have to pay towards any claim you make, so you will need to know that you will be able to afford it. Don’t just increase the Excess, thinking that nothing will happen to you; If something does happen and for whatever reason you aren’t able to find the Excess to cover it, you may find that you aren’t able to get your vehicle fixed and could be left without your car until you can.
4. Consider what car you are driving
If your driving conviction is causing your insurance premium to be too expensive, then look at what car you are actually driving. You may find it cheaper to get a less powerful vehicle, or something that is cheaper, older or less desirable for thieves.
5. Drive less miles
As part of your insurance policy, you declare the number of miles that you think will drive throughout the year. Reducing the miles you drive can help reduce the premium. However, don’t be tempted to lie about it, and say you will do less miles than you actually drive. If you have an accident, your insurer can check the mileage you have done, and could reject your claim if they think you have driven more miles than you declared.
6. Consider the age of all drivers on the policy
If you have a conviction, then your insurance is already going to be higher than it would be without it, so make sure that you aren’t increasing the cost further by adding Named Drivers on to your policy who increase the costs further because of their age or driving record. If you are a young driver with points on your licence, then you are still able to get covered, however typically the minimum age for Convicted Drivers is 18.
For more information on how you can help reduce your Convicted Driver insurance, call one of our specialist team on 0800 221 8077 and they will talk you through the various options available to you. They will help you understand what you can do to get the right policy for you and your circumstances, and at a price that you are happy with.
